Hankley Common er en kanon bane, minst ett hakk (kanskje to!) over North Hants ...
Det som jeg likte med denne banen var at hvis du hadde en "decent" drive så kunne du nå inn på nesten alle par 4 hullene.
Denne banen er et MUST hvis du er i nærheten og spiller golf ...
Sjefen skulle ikke være med idag heller, glad å sole seg hadde hun blitt! ... men Rob hadde tatt in på ett hotell og skulle være med idag også!
Så jeg skreiv ned vei nummerene igjen å kjørte avsted!, det var ca 35 min kjøring idag også ... Og som jeg rotet meg vekk ...
Jeg skjønte det når jeg kom til en liten landsby som jeg visste var laaangt unna der jeg skulle være, det viste seg at jeg hadde passert innkjøringen til banen.
Hvorfor i h******* kan de ikke lage større skilt ?? ... Hva kan jeg si; ingen oppvarmning og spiller som en gud! ... Nesten da!
Rob sto klar og det var dagen for revansje etter våres dårlig spill på Sunningdale dagen før, kroppen var i bedre form og jeg var klar!
Some English facts!;
Hankley Common Golf Club was first opened for play over nine holes in 1897 (see history). In 1922 James Braid advised on the addition of a further nine holes. Bobby Locke described the course as the closest resemblance to a seaside links and the famous course architect, Charles Lawrie, once described the course as "one of the best inland layouts in Britain".
The 7th hole is looked upon as being one of the finest par 3s in the country and the magnificent 18th a superb but challenging finishing hole.
The course and surrounding area are classified as a ‘Site of Special Scientific Interest' which includes a number of indigenous trees such as Rowan, Oak and Silver Birch, together with the invading Scots Pine. The course is also home to many birds and animals, including the rare Dartford Warbler, Woodlark, Night Jar, Adder, Deer, Badger and the Sand Lizard.
1st hole, 411 yards, par 4 ... Bra drive, bra 2 slag, chip og putt ... Easy par! ...
Very demanding opening hole. It measures 411 yards and requires two long straight shots. The only bunkers on this hole are found down the right so keeping your second shot a little left will bring rewards.
2nd hole, 116 yards, par 3 ... La den på kaka, bomma som vanlig på birdie putten, men "tap in" for par ... Hyggelig start! ...
A deceptive short par 3. Don't be afraid to take an extra club to avoid the deep bunker guarding the front of the green. However you must avoid the steep bank at the back and another deep bunker to the left of the green!
2nd hole, 116 yards, par 3 ... Stor bunker i forkant som sikert fanger opp en del dårlig slag, Rob havnet i venstre bunker ...
3rd hole, 328 yards, par 4 ... Kort par 4 hull med 2 fairway bunkere som fanger opp en del baller ...
Play for position off the tee, right of centre is ideal but be careful to avoid a well placed grass bunker. Again keep your approach shot right of centre to a two tier green.

Neat, simple par 4. The drive needs to be straight off the tee to avoid heather either side of the fairway. Accept a par here as potentially this hole is a card wrecker early in the round.

Picturesque par 4. Keep drive right of centre avoiding staggered fairway bunkers. The green is long so consider an extra club to land over two front bunkers.

Long par 5. From the tee the line is right of centre as the hole dog-legs left. Heather both left and right makes this a demanding shot. For the long hitter beware of the bridle path crossing the fairway, a ball coming to rest here has to be played. From a good position the rest of the hole is straight forward with greenside bunkers.

Great par 3. Bobby Locke loved it, Henry Cotton coveted it and Keith MacDonald mastered it. What will you do? Tough par 3. Take an extra club, plays its full length to a two tier green with room for error on either side.

Gentle down hill par 5. This is a great birdie opportunity for the long hitter, but again accuracy off the tee is required. A bridle path crosses this fairway but should not be in play for all but the poorly struck second.

Tricky dog-leg par 4. The large pine in distance is the line off the tee, be brave and attack the green with your approach.
10th hole, 411 yards, par 4 ... Meget fint hull, fra og med dette hullet spilte jeg min beste golf på hele turen ...
Long, tough par 4. Dog-legs to right. The line from the tee is left of the cops of pines on the right of the fairway. The green is slightly raised and so be careful not to under club.

Two hundred yard par 3 which most people under club. Here again the approach rises to the green level so a good tee shot is required to carry the slope.

12th hole, 386 yards, par 4
Friendly par 4, dog-legs to left. Keep tee shot right to avoid the fairway bunker. This will open up the green for the second shot. A deep bunker on the left and grass swale on the right should be avoided.

Fairly straight forward par 5. Watch out for bridle path running laterally down the right of the fairway which again must be played from. Play for position with your second shot, leaving a flat lying position for your approach shot. Good picturesque par 5.

Stunning looking par 4 Straight tee shot required. Attack the green. Don't be lulled into a half-hearted approach shot to the raised green.

A classic short par 4 where you should make a par, you can make a birdie but it can all also go horribly wrong. The big hitters have reached the green with their tee shots, but the safe shot from the tee is over the marker post with a long iron or fairway wood followed by a solid pitch. The green is one of the hardest to read with many subtle borrows so beware.

Uphill par 3. Take plenty of club to carry the slope in front of the green, many a ball has spun back off the green here. Plays longer than yardage and is guarded by two bunkers either side of the green.

Probably the most difficult finishing hole in the south of England. Plays all of its 432 yards because a deep grass gully sits in front of the green. Doesn't have a bunker. Doesn't need one. A par 4 here is like a birdie! Welcome home!
